WordPress 5.0 – What Now?
Before you update to 5.0:
- Make a Fresh Back Up!!!
- Update your Theme****First verify your Theme is compatible with WP 5.0
- If your theme has not been updated since WordPress 5.0 launched (11/29/18), do not update
- Ask for help – You may need to have your theme changed to accommodate 5.0 upgrades – this is not likely something you want to attempt on your own.
Please Run a fresh Backup if you are going to update or upgrade your theme and/or go to 5.0 on your own.
Theme Updates can take 5 mins – but if your theme is not compatible with 5.0 you may blow up your site (then you need that back up!).
The time to upgrade to a theme varies by size of site and complexity of your current design. Most theme changes take 2-3 hours – larger and custom sites can take exponentially longer to reconfigure. This is a good time to consider a redesign which may take fewer hours, cost less, and freshen your site at the same time!
